Rockford Sansom is an actor and educator based in New York City. He has acted in leading roles Off-Broadway and in multiple national and international Broadway tours, taught at universities worldwide, and served as a communication development trainer working with Fortune 500 executives, United Nations officials, and members of the U.S. Congress.
As an actor, Rockford has performed in the Broadway tours of Wonderful Town (First National), 42nd Street (Asia), Le Fantôme de l’Opéra (Europe), and Bye Bye Birdie (National). Off Broadway productions include The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe (St. Luke’s) and Pageant Princess (Bleeker St.). His favorite regional theatres include Seaside Music Theater, Oklahoma Shakespeare, and the Orlando Repertory.
Rockford has also served as a vocal coach and accent/text director for such theatres as the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, Premiere Stages, Boomerang Theatre, and the Southern Colorado Rep. He has lectured and given workshops at Beijing University and Nankai University, (China), Seoul National University (South Korea), the University of Latvia, and others.
As a professor of theatre, voice, and communication, Rockford has taught at Marymount Manhattan College, HB Studios, the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (NYC), and others.
His scholarly publications include Theatre Journal, Theatre Topics, Incite/Insight, Voice and Speech Review, and Journal of Singing. He is an associate editor for the Voice and Speech Review and has published textbook chapters in World Cultures and Values for Words of Wisdom Press. Rockford is the 2016 winner of the Dorothy Mennen Development Grant offered by the Voice and Speech Trainers Association.
He is an Honorary Fellow of Theatre for the Shanghai Conservatory of Music (China) and a North American Associate for Communications and Media Training—an executive development company based in London, England.
Rockford received his PhD in education from Capella University, his MFA in theatre from the University of Central Florida and his BFA in acting and his BA in English from the University of West Florida, with additional acting intensive training at the Yale School of Drama. He holds teacher certifications from Estill Voice International (Master Teacher), Knight-Thompson Speechwork, Fitzmaurice Voicework, Equinox Pilates Institute, and the Center for Excellence in Education/Harvard School of Management. He is currently pursuing a Yoga certification through the Aura Wellness Center. Member: AEA, SAG-AFTRA, VASTA, NATS.
Rockford is originally from the Florida Panhandle and now lives in Midtown Manhattan with his wife, Abigail Taylor-Sansom, and their rescue racing greyhound, Tennessee, who is a certified therapy dog.
